Violent Lucidity

It's about 1 am. I find myself staring at the switchboard near my foot. Mother, perhaps in her sleep, tells me that this is the hour of the beasts. She asks me to check if the front door is shut properly.

Oddly it is open. I get up and proceed towards it to shut it, half asleep.

As I approach it, I see a figure in white standing just outside, as if waiting for me. Before I can make any sense of it, a creature, as white as the figure at the door, pounces on me. I struggle to close the door before it can force its claws through. I notice that it is on a leash, the other end of which is in the hands of the figure, who by this time is looking more and more human.

The creature is by now breathing down on me. Its warm breath reeks of blood. I gather all my strength and give the door a final push, shoving the beast out along with it. The door shuts.

I head back to my bed, wondering how this could be made into a interesting post.
